This project is the culmination of a 1-month expedition together with the Italian Alpine Club (CAI) into Pakistan to reach the Base Camp of K2. Among the Baltoro glacier lies a blend of indomitable nature which could not be experienced without the people living in this place. The Balti porters allow for this region to be experienced by people from all over the world. It is only thanks to them that the beauty of this magical landscape lives on.
This project aims to showcase the magical shapes sculpted by the hands of nature and time. Throughout a blend of color and black & white, it wants to manifest a landscape where every single element - rocks, ice, and the human subject - becomes part of an interconnected whole of coexisting units. Here, the sheer proximity to verticality allows for a sublime encounter with nature, an encounter that in our contemporary society only persists in these remote areas. Verticality becomes a stage in which each element is allowed to coexist and to interact. Ultimately, this photographic set is an aesthetic hymn intended to firstly recognize the fragmentation of our natural world, and secondly to elevate from this recognition to understand these fragments as parts of an indissoluble whole.
